Give Your Child’s Class an Extra Science Session This Year!
FOPBE proudly supports all students’ participation in San Diego Youth Science’s (SDYS) custom programs. This year, students are diving into exciting, hands-on science labs, including:
- Adaptations, Natural Selection, & Genetic Rescue – The Pacific Pocket Mouse Students investigate the biology, habitat, and life history of the endangered Pacific Pocket Mouse through hands-on behavior experiments with live mice.
- Biodiversity – From Micro to Macro Exploring biodiversity on every scale, from microscopic samples to large specimens like the deep-sea Oarfish, students examine ecosystem diversity down to individual species.
- Space Engineering & Astrobiology – Through designing, building, testing, and modifying space probes, students simulate the challenges of space exploration—just like the recent launch of NASA’s Europa Clipper.
- Ecology, Energy Flow, & Food Webs – Students engage in grade-level dissections of marine organisms such as California Market Squid, Mackerel Fish, or Spiny Dogfish Sharks to explore energy flow and ecological relationships.
- Rocky Intertidal Habitat Tidepool Field Trips – Students visit the tidepools to observe and identify diverse algae and marine animals, gaining a deeper understanding of coastal ecosystems.
These hands-on experiences inspire curiosity, deepen scientific understanding, and connect students to the natural world in meaningful ways.
Does this sound like something your child would like more of?
IF SO, BID with other families to bring an additional session of SDYS to your child’s classroom!
Date and time: TBD with the PBE classroom teacher and SDYS. All materials are provided.
