Did you know that our UTK and Kindergarten classes

Did you know that our UTK and Kindergarten classes participated in a Touch-a-Truck program at PBE last Wednesday? How cool is that?!

Students learned all about how a trash truck works, and even got to sit in the driver and passenger seats and honk the horn! This opportunity provided our students with an educational experience interacting with a specialized vehicle that provides essential services to our community.

There are so many cool things going on at PBE these last few months of school!

Today we are back with another post promoting children's literacy! We have one of our PBE 4th grade teachers, Mrs. Atwell, sharing her favorite children's book with our community!

Mrs. Atwell loves the book Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell. It is a gripping tale of survival, strength, and courage and is based on the true story of Juana Maria, a Nicoleño Native American who was left alone for 18 years on San Nicolas Island, an island off the California coast, during the 19th century.

Here is what Mrs. Atwell had to say about this Newbery Medal-winning classic:

This book was very memorable to me as a student and has been very special over all these years as a fourth-grade teacher. I love how it is timeless. Students from all decades fall in love with the book no matter what year it is. One of my favorite things is that when I first start reading the book in my class, some students may be a bit resistant to my reading "an old book" but during the course of reading the book aloud, students become invested in the story and cannot WAIT for us to continue reading it! Many, many students end up loving it by the end and say it is one of their most favorite books ever! Check out this amazing book yourself—especially if you’ve never read it. I recommend that it is appropriate for 4th grade and above due to some sad scenes that might be too much for the littles.

Thanks for sharing this book with our PBE community, Mrs. Atwell, and for continuing to help us promote reading and literacy at PBE!

Wow! What a fun evening filled with science and co

Wow! What a fun evening filled with science and community at our PBE STEAM Night event on Wednesday. There were so many opportunities to explore and engage in the amazing ways science impacts our lives including learning about how simple machines work, learning about gravity, kinetic energy, conservation of energy, how buoyancy works and more!

We want to thank all of the volunteers who stepped up to help expose our PBE students to the wonderful world of science at the 10 interactive and hands-on STEAM activities provided by the Fleet Science Center, as well as a special robotic station provided and run by the Mission Bay High School Robotic team and a Pinewood Derby Track provided and run by the local Boy Scouts - Troop 246. Not only did we have the MBHS Robotic team and Boy Scouts volunteering at our event, but we also had several PBE teachers & staff, parents, grandparents, friends of PBE families, middle school and high school students and many more who all came out to volunteer to make this event a HUGE success. We would like to give a special shout-out to our very own Doug LaRue for coordinating this event and having the passion to continue this tradition at PBE.

We would also like to thank our very own PBE family-owned food truck, Leilani's, for having delicious dinner options available on campus for this event!

Our auction Teacher Features are underway!

Yesterday, the first grade teachers took their winning students on their exciting after school adventure. The students started with a date with their teacher at Pizza Wednesday, walked to Mr. Frostie's for ice cream and then walked to the Pacific Beach Recreation Center for special playtime with their teachers.

Our Teacher Features are one of our most popular auction items every year at our annual auction. If you were a winner of a Teacher Feature this year, send us your photos so we can share and highlight these amazing experiences for our students.

And if you weren't a winner this year, remember to keep your eye out next year for the Teacher Features at our annual auction. They are such an incredible, unique, and special opportunity for students to spend extra time with their teacher doing some really fun activities.
