Happy Monday, PBE Penguins!

Today, we'd like to introduce Mrs. Sherri Christy, our PBE Educational Specialist. We asked Mrs. Christy to share with our community one of her favorite PBE memories. Here's what she had to say:

Some of my favorite memories from our school are from the annual PBE Variety Show. Every year I'm blown away - the costumes, the choreography, the creativity - it's AMAZING! PBE's got talent!

I think we can all agree with Mrs. Christy that PBE's Variety Show is the best! We love seeing the unique acts that our students bring to the stage. If you've been to a PBE Variety Show, you likely have fond memories similar to those of Mrs. Christy. And we look forward to making more memories at our Variety Show this year!

You too can be part of the PBE Jogging Club crew!

It was so much fun seeing our PBE students on the field for the first day of Jogging Club yesterday!

TOMORROW is another opportunity to join the Club! Jogging Club is held every Wednesday and Friday at 7:25 AM, except in the case of rain.

Enter the field through the gate on Turquoise Street, find your Runner ID card, and have a quick warmup before we start jogging.

All PBE students have a Runner ID available, so all are welcome and no registration, signup, or commitment is required. Just meet up on the Joint Use Field for some fresh air and exercise. Family and friends are always welcome!

Every Wednesday after school dismissal at 12:15 PM on the front lawn.

Each week we are selling pizza for $2 per slice and juice for $1 each, while supplies last. Stop by for a slice before you head home!

Some of you may remember that last year, we put together a social media series promoting literacy by asking our PBE teachers and staff to share with us their favorite children's book. The series was such a hit last year, we've decided to continue these literacy highlights. There are so many incredible children's books out there to share and many of our teachers and staff had a difficult time choosing just one.

Our PBE PE teacher, Coach Cortes (or just "Coach" to our students), was so excited to share his favorite children's book with our community. This is Coach's 4th year at PBE. Here's the book he chose to share and why:

"The Kissing Hand," is one of my favorite children's books because of the simple, yet profound message it conveys. I think everyone can relate to that first day feeling at a school, new job, or an unfamiliar place. All we need to take that first step into the unknown is love and encouragement from our loved one(s). The message reverberates back to us as parents when it's our turn to let our children forge their own path in life.

Thank you for sharing, Coach! I think we can all agree that The Kissing Hand is a classic with an incredible message. Many of our PBE teachers have a copy of this book in their classroom that I'm sure they would love to allow your student to borrow if you don't have a copy of your own at home. You can also find The Kissing Hand at our PBE library and at our local Pacific Beach/Taylor Branch of the San Diego Public Library.

Reading with your child for just 15 to 30 minutes per day has a positive impact on their mental health and improves critical-thinking skills.

THIS JUST IN:

Jogging Club is back starting on Wednesday, September 27th on the Joint Use Field!

Enter the field via the gate on Turquoise Street. Please arrive by 7:25 AM to find your Runner ID card and have a quick warmup. All PBE students have a Runner ID available, so all are welcome and no registration, sign up or commitment is required. Just meet up on the Joint Use Field for some fresh air and exercise. Family and friends are always welcome!

Jogging Club will be held every Wednesday and Friday at 7:25 AM, except in the case of rain. Participants receive monthly incentives and mileage achievement awards, plus end of the year awards for top runners.

The grass is often wet in the mornings so we recommend bringing dry socks and shoes to change into before heading to class.

PARENTS OF UTK/K STUDENTS: please plan to escort your student to their class line after Jogging Club.

ALL PBE PARENTS: we need volunteers to scan runners! It's an easy, fun outside job that takes little time! To volunteer, or if you have any questions, please contact Sarah Weber at sarah.p.weber@gmail.com or join our Jogging Club social group on Konstella.
