New Teacher Spotlight: Pamela Denenberg

Pacific Beach Elementary is lucky to have another experienced teacher with deep ties to the community join us this year.

Pamela Denenberg, PBE’s new first grade teacher, has been teaching for 26 years, all of it in the San Diego Unified School District. She’s taught at Alice Birney Elementary in Normal Heights and Rosa Parks Elementary in City Heights, teaching alongside our other new teacher, Brenda Taylor. Denenberg has worked as a literary support teacher and taught first grade.

Denenberg grew up in Los Angeles but has lived in San Diego since she attended San Diego State University. She now lives in Crown Point, but for many years lived in Pacific Beach. Her daughter, a kindergarten teacher, lives in the same Pacific Beach apartment complex as Denenberg when she was in her 20s and starting out as a teacher.

Now an empty-nester with all of her kids either in college or in the workforce, Denenberg and her husband enjoy going for bike rides and hiking. Denenberg and Taylor — our other new teacher — often see each other at Core Power Yoga.

Denenberg said she’s excited to be teaching at PBE, and she believes no matter where they start, every child has something to offer.

“I’m looking forward to settling down here and making myself a part of the community,” she said. So far, she’s been very impressed by what she’s seen at Pacific Beach Elementary.

“The kids are amazing, respectful, kind-hearted, eager, and motivated,” she said.
