Once a year, a little red truck arrives at Pacific Beach Elementary.
Inside is everything needed to put on a musical — in just one week.
Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) is one of the most treasured traditions at PBE. MCT is the nation’s largest touring children’s theatre, visiting nearly 1,100 communities each year. FOPBE sponsors MCT to provide a completely free theatrical experience for our children.
The two MCT actor/directors hold auditions on a Monday and then spend the week working with the students, teaching them songs, choreography, and helping them with their lines. It’s astonishing to see how much the children learn in just one week, and how much fun they have working together to put on a show.
This year, the production is Beauty Lou and the Country Beast, a take on Beauty and the Beast.
Permission slips, which are required, are due Tuesday, October 31. Students must be available from Monday through Saturday the week of November 13. This coincides with a week of early dismissal for parent-teacher conferences, so it’s a great way to keep the kids entertained and occupied.
Auditions will be held on Monday, November 13, 2017 at the Pacific Beach Elementary Auditorium from 12:30–2:30 PM. There are roles for students in grades K through 5 (we are unable to accommodate TK at this time). Character roles will be announced immediately after auditions but please be aware that everyone who auditions will NOT be cast in the play. There are also 4-6 “Assistant Director” positions available for 5th grade students only. This is a wonderful experience helping with the backstage production as an alternative to being in the play.
Rehearsals will be conducted every day after school for ONE week only (November 13 – November 17, 2017) with the performances on Saturday, November 18 at 2:30 PM and 5:30 PM. All students interested in auditioning must have an open schedule for the entire week Monday-Saturday.
The Performance will be held on Saturday, November 18 at 2:30 PM and 5:30 PM. The Missoula Children’s Theatre touring productions are complete with costumes, scenery, props and makeup.
