We're back with another awesome PBE teacher sharin We're back with another awesome PBE teacher sharing his favorite children's book in an effort to promote literacy among our students.

This is Mr Sandler. He is one of our fifth grade teachers at PBE. Today, he would like to share his favorite children's book, The Merry Shipwreck by Georges Duplaix. This is a book about Captain Barnacle, who loves to "spin salty yarns" about his life on the Seven Seas and the shipwrecks he's been in. But his animal friends are sure there's no such thing as a shipwreck...

Here's what Mr. Sandler had to tell us about his favorite book:

I was obsessed with this Little Golden Book's illustrations. The colors and details which filled the pages by the artist, Tibor Gergley, added to Georges Duplaix whimsical, yet simple story about a boat full of animals that get shipwrecked after the naughty mice gnaw their way through the line which holds them to the dock. I read this book over and over and over as a young child...

This book certainly sounds like an adventure! Thank you, Mr. Sandler, for the fun introduction to this classic book!
We inspected fossils, explored the Living Lab, wat We inspected fossils, explored the Living Lab, watched the Foucault Pendulum swing, saw skeletons in all shapes and sizes, viewed beautiful hidden gems, walked under a megalodon, and watched Dinosaurs of Antarctica in the Giant Screen Theater. It was a full day of fun and learning for our 3rd-grade PBE Penguins!

Thank you to the San Diego Natural History Museum for letting our PBE students explore the natural history of Southern California and Baja California, from past to present!

If any of our chaperones took any photos you'd like to share, send them our way or tag us! We love to reshare these experiences with our PBE community!
